Choosing Adult Plastic Pants

Plastic Pants are one of the most effective incontinence products.

Adult plastic pants are one option for absorbent products for men and women who suffer from incontinence. Incontinence is a problem that is rarely spoken of but is affecting more and more people. Studies show that nearly 25 million Americans experience some level of incontinence. Often, bladder and bowel control are thought to be only a problem for women but studies show that while women make up the higher percentage of incontinence sufferers, there are a large number of men who must deal with this medical condition as well. Incontinence affects individuals with varying health status, age, and gender.

The following are some tips for how to keep the skin surrounding the catheter healthy:

Stroke Prognosis and Recovery

Read more about Stroke Prognosis and Recovery
Stroke is a common ailment of the elderly. A stroke occurs when there is a blockage in the pathways leading to the brain. This can leave a patient severely disabled in a number of ways, including being incontinent.

The neurological pathways that control both bladder and bowel function can be seriously affected by a stroke. This can be permanent or temporary depending on the severity and the recovery rate of the patient. Studies indicate that the rate and amount of incontinence varies, but can be found to some degree in about 79% of stroke patients. This leaves caregivers with another serious condition to help their loved one manage as they recover from a stroke.

If One Pad is Good, Two is Better...WRONG!

Booster pads offer additional protection.
At least once a week we get calls from customers who are wearing two pads inside their disposable pull-on, or are wearing two pair of disposable underwear at a time, or are wearing an incontinence pad inside their pull-on underwear. They are having leakage and want to know what to do.

Feeling Anger When Caregiving

A few things to consider if you are feeling anger.
It is important to understand as a caregiver that you will have good and bad days. There will be days when you feel great about what you are doing, and days when you feel anger and resentment. It is normal and it is okay to have these feelings. The important thing is to not let those feelings impact your actions. The following are a few things to consider if you are feeling anger when caregiving:

Dehydration Prevention, Reducing Liquids is Not the Answer to Incontinence

Drinking less can actually worsen urinary incontinence.
There are almost 25 million adult Americans who suffer from some degree of the medical condition incontinence. Urinary incontinence is quite frequent for both men and women. It stands to reason that if you have trouble with bladder control reducing liquids could help. This, however, is a fallacy. Drinking less water in order to avoid urinary incontinence can actually make incontinence worse, and to top it off, leads to dehydration.

Diabetes and Incontinence, What's the Connection?

Diabetes and Incontinence are connected.
Diabetes and incontinence are connected, having diabetes increases the risk and severity of both fecal and urinary incontinence. Let’s take a look at why, and what the connection is exactly:

Diabetes greatly increases the risk for incontinence, but not all diabetics are incontinent, and not all incontinence is diabetes related. It is possible to have both without a connection. However, there are many ways diabetes is connected to incontinence.

Caregivers: What It Means to Provide Great Incontinence Care

It does not take a degree to provide great incontinence care.
Many caregivers are untrained family members trying to manage the needs of a senior with one or more chronic conditions, while also trying to balance a home life, a career, and the raising and care of their own children. It is not easy to be a caregiver, especially to someone with incontinence. However, it does not take a degree to provide great incontinence care.

Wisdom to Know The Difference

Lynn Wilson, Founder
By Lynn Wilson, Founder of The CareGiver Partnership

Wisdom to know the difference... a line from a famous prayer about serenity. I’ve been thinking about this word ‘wisdom’ lately as it relates to the growing population of boomers who are retiring. It is estimated this is happening at a rate of 10,000 or more per day.

This group of individuals will live longer than any other generation of retired people, be more active, and cling dearly to the idea of ‘aging in place’ versus going to assisted living centers, and nursing homes. They will also be subjected to a healthcare system that in all probability will be unlike any other they have known in their lifetime; a system that is complex, bureaucratic, and anti-customer service.

Heard of Over Active Bladder? What About Under Active Bladder?

Learn more about Symptoms and Causes of Under Active Bladder
Patients with an underactive bladder are unable to produce an effective voiding (emptying) contraction. This is sometimes referred to as voiding difficulty. The International Continence Society refers to the condition of detrusor under activity, defined as a contraction of reduced strength and/or duration, resulting in prolonged bladder emptying and/or failure to achieve complete bladder emptying within a usual time span. It is characterized by the loss of usual sensation of the bladder filling and failure of the detrusor muscle to contract as forcefully as it should, resulting in incomplete bladder emptying. This condition has also been referred to as a hypotonic or flaccid bladder or detrusor hypoactivity. The prevalence of underactive bladder remains unknown.
