Elderly Games & Activities For Fun and Function

ROS Legacy Bundle Kit
Playing is More Than Fun

Ironically it was through social interactions with my Dad that we first saw the signs of Dementia. Our family had always played games together but suddenly my Dad couldn’t remember the rules or he kept forgetting whose turn it was. When we began to couple this with other signs in his everyday life we were concerned and made him see a doctor. We were devastated to learn he was beginning to experience Dementia. We sadly assumed we wouldn’t be able to play together anymore and enjoy the type of family get togethers we had always had. It was only when we found out about R.O.S. Therapy Systems we learned just how important it was to keep playing.

While there is no cure for Dementia or Parkinson’s, research has shown playing games can help to slow the onset of symptoms. It can be difficult to find the right games for the elderly. The needed mind games are often still to complicated or overdone for patients who are dealing with cognitive loss. However, when the right activities for Alzheimer patients, those suffering from Dementia and Parkinson’s are found and used correctly, it can mean a higher quality of life for the patient and a chance to bond with family and friends through social interaction.

Most Useful Gifts for Loved Ones in Assisted Living

When you want to give a gift for the senior in your life.
What to Give Mom

When my Mom moved into Assisted Living there were a number of things she didn’t need to take with her. In addition, after a full lifetime of receiving gifts from family and friends it seemed like she already had everything! However, when the holidays rolled around our family still wanted to give her gifts she would really like and use but we were stumped as to what those could be. We checked out medical stores and home and health care supply stores but they just didn’t seem to have anything right for mom. It was only after doing some research we were able to come up with gifts that were things Mom really wanted and loved to have.

When you want to give a gift for the senior in your life who is now in assisted living it's important to really think about what they can use, how they will use it and if it will fit into their current living arrangements. The following are suggestions which can work well for seniors who living in a variety of different assisted living circumstances.

by Dianna Malkowski, physician assistant and registered dietitian

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men, second only to skin cancer. The great news is, it often can be treated successfully.

Depend for Men Real-Fit Briefs (Pull-On Underwear)

Confusion Reins

Don’t let the names confuse you. Depend Real Fit briefs are actually pull-on underwear that go up and down. They’re not the type with tape tabs sometimes referred to as ‘adult diapers’. Why the Depend people changed the name to confuse everyone, is beyond us. All the other brands call ‘briefs’ - briefs and pull-on underwear or protective underwear. Not the makers of Depend. Go figure. Here is an easy to use chart which shows you all the product styles, a picture of each, the absorbency level, if its for a man, woman or either, for urine or fecal incontinence and when it should be used. There are 13 different product sytles!

Don't Judge People. You Never Know What Kind of Battle They Are Fighting.

You Never Know

Mary’s friends wonder why she won’t come out with them as much anymore. They feel hurt and sometimes offended when Mary begs off outings with them and some of her friends have even stopped calling. Mary feels alone and isolated but what her friends don’t know is she struggling with a diagnosis of incontinence at age 39. She isn’t sure she is using the right incontinence products to help her manage her symptoms.

Sara age 56 is constantly torn between helping her Father who has recently moved in with her and taking care of her needs and other family members. Her Dad’s incontinence symptoms and his reluctance to deal with them has left her tired and worn out due to the extra work of caring for him and trying to find the right incontinence supplies.

Mark age 79 is struggling with managing his own incontinence symptoms after recently completing treatment for prostate cancer. He wonders if he will ever be able to get back to the activities he enjoys without always worrying about his incontinence becoming noticeable to others.

Poise Impressa: They Help Stop Leaks Rather Than Absorb Them

Poise Impressa is designed for the temporary management of
stress urinary incontinence in women.
New Poise Impressa Bladder Supports are a revolutionary product that helps stop leaks before they happen. Are they for you?

From liners to underwear, absorbing leaks is at the core (so to speak) of most incontinence products. Poise Impressa does not absorb leaks — it’s worn inside the body to help stop leaks before they happen.

How Impressa works

Designed for the temporary management of stress urinary incontinence in women, Poise Impressa Bladder Supports are inserted and removed the same way as a tampon but work very differently. Instead of absorbent material, they’re made of soft, flexible silicone with a non-absorbent cover.

While inserted, they gently lift and support the urethra with light pressure, much like stronger muscles. And unlike traditional pessaries, they’re conveniently disposable — simply discard in the trash.

Prevail Pull-On Underwear- Extra Absorbency

Nearly 25 million Americans are reported to be
dealing with some form of incontinence.
You Are Not Alone

Many people report they feel isolated and alone when diagnosed with incontinence. They are often embarrassed to share their struggle with anyone close to them. It is important to understand if you are diagnosed with incontinence, you are not alone. Nearly 25 million Americans are reported to be dealing with some form of incontinence. Contrary to popular belief incontinence is not something which only affects the elderly and ill but can be something people of both genders, all ages and health status must deal with. Many times the individuals who are experiencing incontinence are still working, traveling and having active social lives. If you are one of these people it is crucial to find the right incontinence products for your incontinence management needs.

Prevail Bladder Control Pads Ultimate Length- 16"

Prevail is about half the cost of Poise,
while offering the same or better quality.
A Clever Solution

When Mary was first diagnosed with incontinence her first fear was would she have to wear an adult diaper? While she didn’t know exactly what incontinence supplies would be available she knew what she didn’t want to have to wear. In addition, she was worried about the cost of incontinence products after a close friend mentioned she also experienced some incontinence as well. She wanted something that would be comfortable, discreet (not big, bulky and noisy), cost efficient and would protect from leaks. It wasn’t until she spoke with the ladies at The CareGiver Partnership she found out the solution for her was actually a pad and the one they recommended was the Prevail Bladder Control Pads Ultimate - 16".

What is Prevail? I’ve never heard of it.

Prevail is manufactured in the U.S. by First Quality. They manufacture and sell more incontinence products then even Depend or Poise. I know, that’s hard to believe because you have probably never heard of the brand. That’s because Prevail is a professional brand used in many long term care facilities across the U.S., Canada and elsewhere. Prevail also doesn’t have a big ad budget like Depend or Poise and that is how they are able to keep their prices down, while offering the same or better quality. The cost is about half of Poise for the same Ultimate pad which is 16” long (at The CareGiver Partnership).

30 New Incontinence Products Imported from Europe

Introducing...Seni incontinence products!
Introducing Seni incontinence products

Located in the small village of 33,000 in Brodnica, Poland is one of the most modern manufacturing facilities for incontinence products in the world. TZMO has been manufacturing absorbent personal care products since 1951. The Seni line of incontinence products is known for being extensive, more absorbent and most importantly better fitting due to a wider varieity of sizes offered in briefs and pull-on underwear.

Just right sizing

Why is fit so important? Because 80% of leaks occur in the rear buttocks area and is usually caused by an ill fitting product. The makers of Seni understand that fit is crucial when it comes to the protection any incontinence supplies can offer. The Caregiver Partnership is now offering this imported line to U.S. consumers. We feel they will better meet the needs of our customers who need a better incontinence product which offers them the highest level of protection.

Too much confusion

It can be overwhelming to try and determine exactly what style of incontinence supplies you or your loved one may need. There are more choices than ever before but this can often create more confusion. The Caregiver Partnership understands this. They have created an easy to use style guide which can help educate you on the options and help you determine what incontinence products are right for you.

TENA for Men

TENA offers innovative and effective incontinence products for men.
Regaining Normalcy

Many men are not prepared for the side effects from prostate surgery. We’re told that many times, their doctor may not even mention that they may have to deal with incontinence - at least for a period of time. They feel overwhelmed and embarrassed about experiencing incontinence. Unlike women who have used pads for years, Men have no idea what they need or what’s out there. They are looking for incontinence supplies which can help them regain their normalcy and dignity. The good news? Gone are the days of having to settle for an oversized (and ill fitting) diaper. The makers of incontinence products understand men have very different needs when it comes to managing their incontinence. This has led to the development of incontinence products specifically for men. TENA is the number one brand in the world and offers innovative and effective incontinence products for men.
