September 23rd, 2011 was proclaimed as Tampa Bay Caregiver Day by area municipalities on both sides of the bay in recognition and support of the 1 million plus caregivers who live and work in the greater Tampa Bay area. It was also the day of the first annual New Age of Caregiving Symposium , an innovative and informative gathering for caregivers, held at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida by The Caregiver Hour Radio Show.
The Symposium was created by Kim Linder, the Founder of Senior Holistic Living and host of The Caregiver Hour, a locally produced radio show that that airs each week on WHNZ 1250 AM. With more than 10 years in the field of senior living and several years as a family caregiver, Linder is a seasoned professional caregiver coach, advocate and expert in helping overloaded caregivers manage the stress in their lives.
The Symposium was aimed at introducing professional and family caregivers to the array of resources, information, and guidance available to them, whether holistic or traditional. Caregivers will be taught relaxation techniques through aromatherapy and massage sessions, discover the power of music in healing and get ample opportunities to enjoy interactive experiences and benefit from local and national resources enabling them to be the best caregiver possible. The day-long event included breakfast, lunch, break-out sessions, author signings and a heartfelt closing ceremony.

The event’s National Keynote Speaker was Gail Sheehy, celebrity journalist, playwright and internationally acclaimed author. Sheehy is the bestselling author of 16 books not including her latest, Passages in Caregiving: Turning Chaos Into Confidence, in which she talks about her inspiring story of her own journey of 17 years caring for her husband and fills the book with stories of families and their most creative caregiving strategies.
In discussing the Symposium’s mission further, Linder says that a portion of the proceeds will go to the Area Agency on Aging, Pasco-Pinellas, Inc. Linder proudly reports “I made this decision because of the incredible work the agency consistently does on behalf of our senior community and caregivers.”
