Compression Hosiery Is An Important Part Of The Treatment Of Varicose Veins

When dealing with varicose veins and other venous deficiencies, it is important to apply the correct treatments to relieve the symptoms of the condition including wearing compression hosiery and elevating legs at regular intervals as prescribed by a doctor.

Varicose veins have several causes that have been correlated to the condition.  Genetics is the largest correlation with about half of all cases being represented as a family problem.
Even those who are not genetically at risk may have other risk factors likeobesity, pregnancy, jobs that require long periods of standing without appropriate breaks, and restrictive garters.  While it is easy to eliminate the last thing on the list as a risk factor by not wearing garters, the other risk factors are a little more difficult to deal with.

Obesity is a risk factor for more than just varicose veins.  People who are overweight are at risk for heart disease, stroke and heart attacks.  They also have higher rates of diabetes.  By controlling this risk factor, people will be able to experience longer, healthier and happier lives.  Diet and exercise are the keys, but diet here does not denote a quick fix, starve for a couple of weeks and regain all of the weight back.  Instead, diet means to adopt a way of eating that the person can follow for the rest of his or her life.  IT should be whole food and plant based.  Eliminating sodas and meat will be a good start for anyone who can otherwise vary the diet enough to get all of the nutrients that he or she needs.  Always consult a physician before starting a new exercise plan.  A nutritionist can be helpful when it comes to planning a lifelong change in eating habits.

Pregnancy can be prevented.  However, pregnancy is also a condition that is joyful and loving.  Unfortunately, one of the side effects for pregnancy can be varicose veins.  By taking appropriate breaks and elevating the legs throughout the day, a woman may be able to prevent getting varicose veins during the pregnancy.  Of course, physical activity is not proscribed, but prolonged standing is a risk factor for varicose veins.

In life, people need to work, and in a capitalist society, it is more important that people work than in any other system.  Pregnant women in the United States get less time off than anywhere in the Western world, and depending on the job, that may mean long periods of standing.  Activities like waiting tables and nursing are not just risk factors for pregnant women, however.  There is an increase in risk for anyone that participates in these jobs.  To prevent varicose veins, people in these positions need to find time to take the pressure off of their legs throughout the day.

Varicose veins are the result of damaged veins where blood begins to pool.  This pooling creates more pressure on the veins and can give them a kinked, twisted appearance near the skin.  Usually found on the inside of the leg, near the back of the calf or at the ankle, Varicose veins can be the source of swelling, pain or a heavy feeling in the legs.  People who have varicose veins should consult their doctors for information relating to blood clots.

Compression hosiery is a great way to deal with the issues of varicose veins and some of the symptoms.  They come in several styles and look good while providing support.  While surgery is available, it may cause scarring and does not prevent future cases of varicose veins.  Instead, prevention and treatment are probably the best bet for anyone experiencing the condition and the symptoms that come with it.
