Don't get confused and frustrated finding incontinence products. |
1. Type: There are many types of incontinence products, with hundreds of options within each.
a. Boxers- For men who want the look and feel of regular boxer style underwear with as much absorbency as a pull-on option. Prevail offers an incredible product that looks and feels so much like the real thing that the wife of the inventor did not even realize her husband was wearing an absorbent product when it was in the testing phase.
b. Pull-on – Pull up and down like traditional underwear, but provide protection. They offer cloth-like stretch panels for superior comfort, and tear away sides for easy removal. Depends Briefs for Men are the most underwear like product on the market, and offer heavy absorbency and odor control as well as discretion.
c. Adjustable underwear- Designed for both men and women, have tabs to reposition and adjust for fit. They also offer tear away sides for easy changing. Depend offers adjustable underwear that offer a great fit, and ease of use, making changing in public easier.
d. Briefs/adult diapers- For men and women, with max protection for heavy to complete loss of bladder and bowel control. These offer tape tabs for removal by caregivers.
e. Undergarments- These are designed for more than a light leak, but not a full void. They are held in place with an elastic strap, and fasten with buttons and straps.
f. Booster pads and inserts- These are pads designed to offer extra protection to other incontinence products.
g. Pads- These are designed for light bladder leakage, pad adheres to cloth underwear with an adhesive strip, and can be used with disposable underwear. Elyte offers a great pad made with 100% pure cotton for greater skin comfort, ideal for those with sensitive skin. Comes in medium, heavy, and super absorbencies.
2. Absorbency:
Figure out the absorbency needs you have based on the severity and frequency of incontinence. Whether light or heavy, there will be a product to fit your needs. You can use a voiding diary to help you and your doctor get a clear picture of your incontinence, and also your needed absorbency. Then choose a product that is designed specifically for those needs. This is where it can get confusing as different brands and manufacturers will indicate their absorbency with a wide variety of terminology. The jargon in the industry is certainly not all the same. While one brand’s highest absorbency product is indicated by the term “heavy” another may indicate the same level of absorbency with the term “maximum”. Our product specialists can help you wade through the confusion and find the right absorbency for your needs. Call us at 800-985-1353 M-F 9-4 CST.
The top rated incontinence pull on products for absorbency are Tranquility premium pull on underwear and Abena Abri Flex premium pull on style underwear.
3. Fit.
No two bodies are exactly alike. This is why fit is so important. Many of our top rated incontinence products are rated as such because they are designed to specifically fit unique body types. For example, the Poise Hourglass Pads are designed for women who are carrying a little extra weight. The hourglass shape helps them stay in shape, not bunch, and allows for extra protection.
First time incontinence products buyers typically waste $130 on average in trial and error mode before they find what works best for them, offering the best fit and comfort, with the protection they need. Since this is a very individual preference, we recommend samples before investing in a case. We have samples available for $3.49 per item set of 4 pads. Call 800-985-1353 M-F 9-4 CST to talk to one of our product specialists.

My mother has just recently started suffering from incontinence, and is not very keen on the idea of adult diapers or other products that might help her manage it more effectively. I'll have to show her this link; she has a very active lifestyle still, and I know once she comes around she will really benefit from using incontinence products.
