Compression Hosiery Is Important

Compression hosiery is important for those who are experiencing varicose veins and other venous deficiencies. Compression stockings and other hosiery items create the conditions in the leg that do not allow blood to pool in the lower area. By doing so, the hosiery helps to prevent further formation of varicose veins, and it can also help prevent the formation of blood clots.

Varicose veins can be caused by damage to the veins when they are straining against gravity to pump blood back to the heart. If a valve fails, blood will pool in the vein causing the unsightly condition. While about half of all cases of varicose veins are due to standing too long, especially in jobs like waiting tables and nursing, the other half are genetically related.
Compression hosiery can help those who need to stand for long periods of time.

Currently, gene therapy is unavailable for the treatment of varicose veins, but there are a couple of treatment options that will help reduce the symptoms and the possibility of blood clots. By elevating the legs at well-timed break intervals, someone who experiences varicose veins will be able to reduce the swelling and pain that is related to them while also preventing further veins from becoming damaged. Those who are unable to elevate their legs as often will at least need to get some compression hosiery to treat the problems associated with varicose veins. Sclerotherapy and laser therapy are available to eliminate varicose veins. They do not, however, eliminate future cases of the condition, and they may leave scars and have other side effects.

Of course, consulting a doctor is the best course of action for anyone who may be experiencing unexplained swelling or bruising in the legs. Blood clots are dangerous and may cause loss of limb and life. Skin ulcers are another good reason to consult a doctor. For those who have varicose veins and get cut, it is important to call the doctor if the bleeding will not stop.

Treatment is not the only way to deal with varicose veins. There are certain things that people can do to prevent varicose veins. Taking appropriate breaks at work or when standing is important for preventing the condition. By getting off of the feet and raising them, people will be able relieve the burden that gravity puts on the veins during the day.

Controlling body weight is a good idea for overall health. Since obesity is a risk factor for varicose veins, not only will weighing the appropriate body weight help with heart health and in preventing diabetes, but it will also help in the prevention of varicose veins. Getting together with a physician and a nutritionist can help people make a plan that will improve not only their eating habits, but also their exercise and movement routines. Some people will need to start slow and make small changes; others will need to make life changing decisions and take actions that will dramatically increase their quality of life.

Compression hosiery comes in all sorts of styles that are visually difficult to distinguish from more high fashion models of stocking. By providing people with styles that look good as well as accomplish what they are designed to do; those who manufacture compression hosiery are doing their part to not just improve the length of life but also the quality. If clothes make the man or woman, then compression hosiery makes him or her smarter and healthier. While life is not only about looking good, it doesn’t hurt to take actions that will help prevent varicose veins, but even if someone gets them, that person can take actions that will help make life better as a whole.
