Odor - The Next Frontier For Incontinence Products

Odor... the next frontier in incontinence products?
What does  Depend Silhouette, Depend for Women, Poise pads, the adult diaper disposal system, Fresh Sacks, Heaven Scent, Inspire, Prevail Boxers, Wellness briefs and Abena products all have in common?

They're all products for incontinence that claim 'odor' benefits.  These benefits are described as odor neutralizing, odor locking, odor absorbing, odor control, odor masking, discrete odor protection, advanced odor protection, odor fighting technology, odor guard, treatment with odor eliminating Agion antimicrobial fibers... and even odor 'killing'.  One is missing.  Read on to learn what it is...

Since the 1920's with the introduction of Kotex pads, manufacturers have used a wide range of substances to 'control' odor including fragrances (deodorant versions of pads), zeolites, neutralizers and other additives in powder or liquid form that are added to the absorbent core of the product.

Odor has always been something women (and men) have been concerned about.  Controlling odor is a benefit consumers have asked for over the years - sometimes even more so than protection from leaks, skin dryness and other benefits.  In a focus group on the subject, one woman said "I don't want dogs following me down the street."  These are her words, not ours.

However, the odor control benefits that have been offered by the manufacturers has not been as effective as we would like to see. In focus groups, women describe 'just showered freshness' as the freshest a person can be.  The ultimate delivery of an odor absorbing benefit would try to achieve this.

However, the odor control benefits that have been offered by the manufacturers over the years has not been as effective as we would like to see.

At The CareGiver Partnership, we are on the phone everyday speaking with people just like you who wear incontinence products or care for someone who does.... or both.  We are also continually researching, developing and testing new incontinence products.  Based on our research, we think there is a better way to deliver an odor benefit. We call it continuous odor protection

Continuous Odor Protection - Odor Control While Wearing and After Disposal
Continuous odor protection does not mean providing odor protection along the lines of the old deodorant pads for under arm odor protection that lasted 5 days.  That would be a terrible idea.  Rather, it would provide a benefit for both wearers and carers because it provides protection from odors while wearing the product and following disposal.
