The CareGiver Partnership has been selected to guest author a series of three articles for "Senior Industry Insider," a monthly newsletter for professionals in the senior living industry. It's published by RetirementHomes.com, an online guide to retirement living. My first in the series published Jan. 17, with articles to follow in February and March.

As an experienced caregiver and provider of incontinence products and services, this publication was a natural fit. Because incontinence affects residents at all types of senior living and assisted living facilities, finding best practices for managing urinary and bowel incontinence is a concern for staff. It’s also an important topic in long-term care facilities, where incontinence supplies are the third highest cost area after food and laundry expenses.

My article provides information on incontinence types and tips, which staff in any care environment can share with residents so they can work together to choose products based on the types of incontinence they’re managing. We find some of our customers aren’t aware that certain types of incontinence are more common among a particular gender, or that there are products made specifically to fit a man’s or a woman’s anatomy. This article explains how specific products can make it easier to manage certain types of incontinence.

The first of my three articles, “Managing Incontinence in the Senior Living Setting,” along with the two articles to follow, will be archived in the RetirementHomes.com Senior Living Library. To view the full article, go to RetirementHomes.com. If you are a professional in the senior living industry and would like me to address a specific topic, e-mail me.
